1st and 3rd Wednesday: Pet Loss Support Group
Share your thoughts, feelings, concerns, questions, pet pictures and stories with other people who are also grieving the loss of their cherished animal companions. Every Wednesday: Radio Pet Vet - Dr. Randy Unleashed
Dr. Randy Aronson shares his practical insights with wisdom and humor in an integrative veterinary medicine call-in radio show, 1330 am KJLT, Wednesdays from 5 - 6 pm.

Every Sunday: Puppy Pop In
Puppies age 8 weeks to 7 months are invited to “drop-in” to the Companions For Life Center (CLC) for an hour of safe off-leash play and socialization from 7:30 - 8:30 am.  CLC trainers will offer basic training advice and techniques and facilitate games and interaction between owners and their puppies. Bring proof of current vaccinations, your puppy, a collar, leash and some soft puppy treats.  Cost is $8 per puppy per class.  Reservations are not required, but space is limited! 3465 E. Every Saturday & Sunday: “Dog Days” at The Cereal Boxx
Bring “Fido” for a Free Cereal Treat! Purchase any cereal, oatmeal or parfait and a beverage and receive a  Free cereal treat for “Fido.” Enjoy outside seating with your favorite loving companion. (Because dogs are people too!) 943 E. University  #101, 622-2699.

Third Saturday each month: Arizona Trail Dog Coalition

Pet Loss Hotline
Telephone support for anyone who wants to talk about their thoughts and feelings related to the loss of their pet. You may call the hotline at any time. You will hear a recorded message that asks for your information. Your call will be returned by a volunteer as soon as possible, usually within a few hours. There is no charge for this service. Hotline number: 349-8094.

JULY:

July 5 - 13: Dog Days of Summer Promotion at Contents Interiors
Spend $1,000 or more and Contents will either pay your adoption fee or make an in-kind donation to The Humane Society of Southern Arizona. The Humane Society will also be at the store with adoptable animals each day of the promotion from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. 3401 E. Ft. Lowell Rd., on the corner of Fort Lowell and Kelvin Blvd.

July 9: Handi-Dogs Demostration
Handi-Dogs provides assistance dog training to people with disabilities. Learn more the about the organization and programs. 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. includes lunch. Information and reservations: 326-3412 or service@handi-dogs.org.

July 11: Toad Avoidance class for dogs
Train your dog to stay away from deadly Sonoran Desert toads (Colorado River toads). $65 per dog. 5:00 p.m. at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona’s Companions for Life Center, 3465 E. Kleindale Rd. 795-6181.

July 12: Breakfast with the PACC
Find your new best friend, eat breakfast and have fun at Pima Animal Care Center. Pet adoption discounts all day. There will be a spin-the-wheel game, gifts, yard sale, jumping castle, raffles and more. The Determined Luddites will perform from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. A story time with Eddie from Nanini Library is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. 4000 N. July 12: Summer Pooch Party & Ice Cream Social

Azmira Holistic Animal Care founder, Dr. Lisa S. Newman will discuss kidney health and the prevalence of kidney disorders in pets today and holistic solutions to them. August 1 & 2: Humane Society of Southern AZ’s annual Adopt-a-thon
Join us for a 70’s-themed event from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. with live music, the VW club showcasing their cars, lots of loving animals and a chance to win a VW Beetle! 3450 N Kelvin Blvd. 327-6088.

August 2: Doghouse Auction
Join us for this fun, animal- and family-friendly event at the El Con Mall Home Depot. Watch students paint and decorate doghouses they built (with supplies donated by Home Depot). The doghouses will be auctioned off during the event and the proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. HSSA volunteers will be available with information about obedience classes, snake & toad avoidance and other programs. 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. 3601 E. Broadway Avenue.

August 9: Dog Wash Benefit
Splish splash, give those doggies a bath! The second of two summer fundraisers benefiting Arizona Greyhound Rescue will be held in the parking lot at Veterinary Specialty Center, 4909 N. La Canada Drive (at River Road) from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. All dog breeds welcome. Dog wash is $10 and nail trim is $10, or $15 for both. No appointment necessary. August 13: Gabriel’s Angels Pet Therapy Information Session
Gabriel’s Angels, providing pet therapy to abused, neglected and at-risk children in the Phoenix area for the past seven years, is now serving Tucson. The nonprofit organization is seeking volunteers interested in becoming pet therapy teams and helping-hand volunteers. 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Every Voice in Action, 2851 N. August 14: Mutt Mingle

August 23: The Humane Society of Southern Arizona’s annual telethon
Tune in to KOLD 13 or come down to the shelter from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. as we aim to raise funds for the homeless animals in our community. We will be showcasing success stories from the past year as well as adoptable animals looking for their forever home.

September 13 & 14: Humane Society of Southern Arizona’s 11th Annual Books & More Sale
